FIND A TEACHER WEBSITE

The Find a Teacher portion of our website is the most frequently visited portion of our website.  You can edit which contact information you would like to have displayed in the online directory and include a profile description to help prospective students learn more about you.

NEWSLETTERS

Members receive a monthly email newsletter with information about local upcoming events, workshops, conferences, and continuing education opportunities. Members may advertise the non-profit activities in their studios for free or their for-profit announcements for a small fee.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND WORKSHOPS

We offer workshops and ongoing programs to help you continue to learn in a variety of areas. Upcoming sessions are advertised on our website and in our newsletter.

Continuing Education events take place about four times a year and include sessions for teachers on a variety of topics. You can register for individual sessions or an entire year. If there is a fee for sessions, it is subsidised by the branch.

Theory Etudes are a once-a-month meeting of teachers who help each other with teaching the intricacies of advanced theory.

COMPETITIONS

Our branch works with the Edmonton Youth Orchestra to put on the Northern Alberta Concerto Competition which offers Junior and Senior levels of competition for piano and organ one year and strings, winds and brass instruments in alternating years.  The winner plays their concerto in concert at the Winspear Centre with the Edmonton Youth Orchestra in addition to cash prizes.

Our branch also supports the Provincial Piano Competition with prize money.

SCHOLARSHIPS

As a member, your students are eligible to receive scholarships of $50 to $150 for top marks in Royal Conservatory or Conservatory Canada exams at our Awards Recital. Teachers must apply on behalf of their students by the middle of October each year. Application forms and more information are available here.

We offer a Further Education Scholarship for Studio Teachers annually to northern Alberta studio music teachers who are seeking funding for further education projects.

Our branch is also proud to support scholarships through local festivals including:

STUDENT RECITALS AND PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES

Three times a year, we have Student Recitals that are open to your students to give them additional performance opportunities. These are timed just before exam sessions and festivals to help them prepare for critical performances.

Our Clementi Sonatina Project gives students the opportunity to play their first mini-piano-concerto by performing a movement of one of Clementi’s Sonatinas with members of the Edmonton Youth Orchestra, arranged by Michael Massey.

PIANO PEDAGOGY GROUP

The Piano Pedagogy Group is for students who are preparing to teach and have already completed their Grade 8 certificate with accompanying theory requirements, and up to 2 years after their associate diploma or equivalent is finished. They meet monthly for meetings, lectures, and excursions.
